COLLABORATIVE DESIGN

Responsive, iterative, and accessible approaches to design

Design is a process that animates ideas, histories, and patterns. As critical disability and access scholar Aimi Hamarie discusses, design illustrates how knowledge is “social, relational, material, and spatiality situated [in a way that] both reflects and shapes the world” (2018, 11). My design process takes these threads as starting points and situates design as creative practice of inquiry.

My approach to design is based on the following principles:

Curiosity - let’s ask questions and engage in generous back and forth.

Responsive - just as processes, expectations, and products shift, so should design and messaging.

Iterative - build on what already exists and make space for what may develop in the future.

Access Centered - create the conditions for presence, wholeness, and wellness within a given space and time.

You can engage with the assets from various projects below (ex. logo redesign, organization rebrand, etc). When you click on the image it will open a larger window so that you can view the entire image, complete with a short description. Please navigate to other projects within my portfolio to see the other design elements and visual artifacts from those particular projects. All visuals designed by Madelaine Lekei.
